Sounds dramatic, but it’s true! Our customer service department received a fascinating email today from a customer who happens to be part of the 911 EMS service for the city of Lubbock. We learned that this group attaches metronomes to cardiac monitors during resuscitation, prompting rescuers so they maintain the proper compression rate. Says our EMS customer:
He said before using metronomes during resuscitation, it was not uncommon to see patients being compressed incorrectly. Now their correct compression rate is consistently in the mid to upper 90% range! Paired with their EMS skills and knowledge, the idea to use metronomes in the field is ingenious. The last sentence of the email is our favorite:
Incredible, isn’t it? We can all attest to how music improves quality of life, but this EMS crew is showing how music, or in this case, a beat, can genuinely save lives. Cheers to the Lubbock EMS for their smart and creative way to keep patients healthy and safe!

Now that summer is in full swing, we wanted to highlight five travel-friendly products from Luna Guitars that are perfect for the beach or wherever the summer takes you. Let’s first look at a few Luna ukes which capture the spirit of the Hawaiian islands with designs inspired by traditional artwork and the beauty of nature.
#1 Great Wave Concert and Soprano Ukuleles
With Luna’s Great Wave Concert Ukulele, you can own a portable version of Japanese artist Hokusai’s famous Great Wave of Kanagawa woodblock print. The Concert version is 23″ long, and the 21″ Soprano version features the popular “pineapple” style body.
The Tattoo Soprano Pineapple Ukulele is an example of Luna’s monochromatic, geometric, and nature-inspired designs inspired by Polynesian tattoo. This one has a pineapple body shape and features triangular fret markers designed to look like sharks teeth.
#3 Luna Honu Turtle Soprano Ukulele
Luna’s Honu Turtle Soprano Ukulele features a laser-etched turtle (“honu” in Hawaiian) decorating the sound hole. This one also has a mahogany body with satin finish for a smooth texture and features the “sharks teeth” fret markers.
#4 Ukulele Suitcase Amp
If you’re looking for a fun, portable amplifier to go along with your electric-acoustic ukulele, check out Luna’s Ukulele Suitcase Amp:
Made of vintage tweed with iPod plug-in capability, this amp is a great combination of vintage looks and modern function. Comes with stickers which you can add yourself, or you can add your own for a custom look!
#5 Luna Safari Peace 3/4 Size Travel Guitar
For guitar lovers who don’t care to lug their full-size guitars around with them, the Luna Safari Peace 3/4 Size Travel Acoustic Guitar is a compact alternative. On this model, the word “peace” has been laser-etched in multiple languages on the guitar body, and the soundhole features a peace sign cut-out design.
Carl Tosten, singer/songwriter and Yamaha endorser, stopped by Austin Bazaar a few weeks ago to demo several guitars. When he’s not making and playing his own music, Carl, a long time Yamaha player and owner, travels the country demonstrating these instruments at music stores and clinics.
The Yamaha FG700S is an outstanding entry-level guitar with deluxe features like a solid sitka spruce top and a rosewood fingerboard. Austin Bazaar carries multiple FG-Series model guitars, which you can also get bundled with other player essentials. Hear more about the FG700S below, including what Carl thinks about the consistency level found in this model.
Part of the brand new A-Series line by Yamaha, the acoustic-electric AC1M concert-size cutaway is designed for players who want a reliable guitar that looks, feels, and sounds fantastic in all applications. Features include a rounded over shoulder on the fingerboard that makes this guitar pleasant to play and is often seen in custom made instruments. The AC1M comes equipped with the Studio Response Technology (SRT) pickup system. The SRT system lets you choose from three different high-end mic types as well as two mic positions that let you use techniques similar to those used in a recording studio. Hear Carl play the AC1M below and find out about a convenient change Yamaha made to the batteries found in the pickup.
Another member of the Yamaha’s A-Series family, (and of Carl’s personal Yamaha collection), the AC3R acoustic-electric is an all wood guitar with a sitka spruce top, solid rosewood back and sides and a mahogany and rosewood rosette. This model also comes equipped with Yamaha’s SRT pickup system. Watch Carl demonstrate how the guitar sounds using several different SRT settings.
We couldn’t have said it any better if we tried, Carl! On top of the acoustic-electric APX500‘s many features, like a thinline body and abalone inlay rosette, Austin Bazaar carries this model in multiple finishes and bundle options. With all the options available at Austin Bazaar, we’re sure we’ve got the Yamaha that’s right for you.
We felt like all you bassists out there needed some love this week, so we decided to showcase the Fender Rumble Series of bass combo amps. Grrrrowl!
Even though these amps premiered in 2010, we think they hold up because they’re a great value for an amp with killer sound, durability, and a classic vintage look to boot. Fender Amp Specialist Jay Piccirillo stopped by Austin Bazaar and took us though the paces with the entire Rumble family, showing the wide range of tones you can get with the Rumble 15, 30, 75, 150, and 350.
If your appetite for bass is not yet sated, check out www.austinbazaar.com/Rumble to see our entire selection of Rumble heads, combos, and cabinets.
…which is the fairest Acoustic of them all?
Your acoustic guitar should fit like a glass slipper. But with all of the options out there, finding the right one can be a little daunting. Sometimes, you gotta kiss a lot of frogs to find a prince. Ok, so maybe we’re mixing up fairy tale metaphors a bit- but the Austin Bazaar crew is here to help! We recently made some videos to highlight two great acoustic options from the Fender family, whether you’re a beginner or just looking for a great second guitar for the road.
The Squier by Fender SA-100 Upgrade Acoustic Guitar Pack and the Fender Limited Edition All-Mahogany CD-60CE Acoustic-Electric Guitar both offer real “twang” for the buck.
First up, the SA-100. This is a great beginner guitar, with a laminated spruce top, rosewood bridge & fretboard, and all the accessories you need right in the box:
Finally, the Limited Edition CD-60CE. This is an acoustic-electric guitar with a Fishman Isys III Pickup System along with a gorgeous solid-mahogany top. You won’t find this finish anywhere else. Oh, and it sounds as gorgeous as it looks:
…Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band was released by The Beatles.
Rolling Stone declared Sgt. Pepper the #1 album on their list of the “500 Greatest Albums of All Time,” saying it is “the most important rock & roll album ever made.” Although statements like this, (as well as any ‘best of’ list), are sure to ruffle a few feathers, but there is no denying the impact Sgt. Pepper had on the music of the 1906′s and continues to have on music being made today.
Another list released by Paste Magazine this week, the ”60 Greatest Albums of the 60′s,” put Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band once again at the top.
It’s no secret that Austin Bazaar celebrates all music, from metal to classical and everything in-between. As far as our Beatlemania goes, check out our Gretsch guitar to the left. That’s the G6128T-GH George Harrison Signature Duo Jet Electric Guitar. Gretsch added as many details as possible, from distress marks to the fretboard inlays to resemble Harrison’s own guitar that he played at the legendary Cavern Club and for years after.
In fact, here’s the title track off the album if you need a little help getting into the Sgt. Pepper groove:
Happy Sgt. Pepper’s Day, everyone!
